What is Maritime Cyber Awareness Training?
Crew cyber awareness training is maritime-specific security awareness for seafarers and shore-side maritime personnel. Unlike generic corporate awareness training (which assumes office workers, broadband internet, IT helpdesk in the next room), maritime training addresses shipboard reality: USB media from port visits and surveyors, limited shore IT support during voyages, crew use of personal devices on bridge / crew Wi-Fi, supply-chain compromise via vendor technicians, BEC targeting bunker and charter operations.
Codesecure delivers training across role tiers: bridge command (master, deck officers, ECDIS-trained navigators), engine room (chief engineer, ETO, engineers, ratings), crew (ABs, ratings, cadets), and shore (crew managers, fleet IT, ops, charter and bunker desks). Content is aligned with STCW Maritime Cyber Security Awareness guidance, IMO MSC.428(98) expectations and class-society audit requirements.
Why It Matters
Crew error is the most common entry point for maritime cyber incidents. USB media plugged into bridge PCs, phishing emails to operations desks, weak passwords on crew portals, vendor technician laptops touching OT, and BEC scams diverting bunker payments all require human error to succeed. Training measurably reduces the click-through rate and improves incident-reporting time.
Awareness training is also explicitly expected. IMO MSC.428(98) expects training in vessel SMS. IACS UR E26 / E27 reference awareness for crew. TMSA 3 Element 13 includes training as a KPI. STCW now has Maritime Cyber Security Awareness as a planned competency area for seafarer certification. Insurance underwriters increasingly ask for evidence of crew training.

Methodology
Every Crew Training engagement follows a 5-phase methodology aligned with IMO and IACS guidance:
1
Discovery & Programme Design
Scoping call, NDA, fleet survey, role mapping, current training review, class-society and Flag expectations.
2
Content Customisation
Modules tailored to vessel types, trade routes, charterers, OT estate; localisation for Indian / Filipino / Eastern European crew mixes.
3
Pilot Cohort
Pilot training with one vessel and shore cohort, feedback incorporation, knowledge-test calibration.
4
Fleet Rollout
Full fleet rollout via e-learning, instructor-led shore sessions, on-board crew briefings, tabletop exercises.
5
Phishing Simulation & Refresh
Quarterly phishing simulations, annual refresh content, role-change retraining, completion reporting to crew manager.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you support multilingual training for international crew?
Yes. Maritime crew is typically multinational and English-dominant but multilingual delivery improves engagement. We support English, Hindi, Tagalog, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Spanish and others. Knowledge tests and certificates remain in English for class / Flag uniformity.
What does crew training cost?
Crew training pricing varies by fleet size, role tier coverage, delivery mix (e-learning vs instructor-led) and phishing simulation cadence. We provide a fixed-fee scoped proposal within 24-48 hours of scoping. Annual programmes scale down per-vessel as content reuses across the fleet.
Can you deliver training on-board during voyages?
Yes. On-board crew briefings are typically delivered by master / ETO using our prepared content during regular safety meetings, or by Codesecure consultants during port-call visits. E-learning modules also run offline on shipboard workstations and sync completion records when shore link is up.
How quickly can you start?
Instant response, no delay. We respond within an hour during business hours, send a fixed-fee scoped proposal in 24-48 hours under NDA, and start programme design same or next business day after sign-off.
How do you handle high crew turnover?
Maritime crew turnover is built into the design. New-joiner training is automatic, role-change retraining is triggered by HR / crew manager system, and certificates carry over with the seafarer when they move ships within the fleet. The shore crew manager dashboard shows completion at any moment.
Can training evidence satisfy class society and TMSA audits?
Yes. Training evidence (knowledge test results, completion certificates, phishing simulation results, tabletop exercise reports) is aligned to IMO MSC.428(98) SMS expectations, IACS UR E26 / E27 awareness requirements, and TMSA 3 Element 13 KPIs. It is accepted by IRS, DNV, BV, LR, ABS and major charterer vetting programmes.
Do you integrate with our LMS or HR system?
Yes. We support SCORM-compliant LMS integration and SCORM / xAPI export. Many of our clients run training through their existing LMS (Cornerstone, SAP SuccessFactors, Marlins, OneOcean) with our content imported. We also offer hosted delivery if you prefer.
